Preserving Timnath’s Rural
and Gardening Heritage

The Timnath Community Garden was founded in 2006 as a grass roots
project by Denise Fisher and Diane Fusaro in collaboration with long-time
landowners,
Edith and Raleigh Brooks (pictured at left). The garden is funded by plot fees and
grants, and is operated 100% by volunteers.
Timnath has a rich history of gardening. The Timnath Garden Club has
been in existence since 1925 with members from Timnath and the
surrounding area. During WWII, Timnath gardeners participated in the
victory garden effort supplying food for their families and for community
potlucks and bazaars.
The Timnath Community Garden grows out of this heritage and carries on
this legacy.
The TCG operates a large-scale
composting project, and has recently started a bee/pollinator project funded by
a grant from New Belgium.
In 2006 the Timnath Community Garden project was awarded the Larimer County Environmental Stewardship
Award. Since that time the TCG has donated nearly 4000 lbs. of produce to the
Food Bank of Larimer County, logged nearly 2000 hours of volunteer time, and
has provided on-going education to gardeners in the form of Master Gardener Q &
As, classes on organic gardening and food preservation, and a library of
gardening literature in our
historic garden shed.
