Preserving Timnath’s Rural and Gardening Heritage

Timnath has a rich history of gardening. The Timnath Garden Club has been in existence since 1925 with members from Timnath and the surrounding area. During WWII, Timnath gardeners participated in the victory garden effort supplying food for their families and for community potlucks and bazaars. Nationwide, 20 million victory gardeners raised 40 percent of America’s fresh produce during WWII.

The Timnath Community Garden grows out of this heritage and carries on this legacy.

Creating a Sense of Community

According to the American Community Garden Association, researchers have found that plants and greening activities play distinct roles in community development. In Community Gardens, gardeners interact, share knowledge, and work together to improve their community.

Providing a Visually Appealing Location

Research also shows that humans benefit psychologically from plants and green spaces.

The Timnath Community Garden provides a green view-scape in town that is a source of pride for the whole community.

Promoting Health and Providing for Those in Need

When you plant a garden, you are cultivating health as well as soil by getting exercise, spending time in nature, and eating a greater variety of fresh vegetables.

The Timnath Community Garden promotes health by providing education on best organic gardening practices through the Ask A Master Gardener program in cooperation with the Colorado State University Extension Service. Community Gardeners also help those in need by donating a portion of their produce to the Food Bank of Larimer County.

(The Food Bank of Larimer County serves approximately 2600 families a month delivering 20,000 lbs. of fresh produce a week.)
